Doug Smith
The four day course with Abigail and Tom was learning at its best. First the setting was impeccable. We were invited to their home in Sutton Quebec to spend four glorious days melding with one another. Abi and Tom fed us to our hearts content. The time we shared at the table was truly memorable, a gathering of souls, minds and a getting to know one another.
With the patient guidance of Tom and Abigail the hours in between eating were filled with teaching how to release the cranium, dural and tempero-mandibular joint. We had the opportunity to practice what we were taught on other individuals and if you were unsure, Abi or Tom were there to help. You could not get it wrong! The time spent learning just flew by.
We melded, palpated, learned to breathe and helped to heal. If you ask anyone who attended the course I am sure they will tell you we made great friendships, experienced something spiritual, learned to communicate, healed others and healed our self in some way or another.
Thank you Tom and Abigail.
A thousand thanks to Tom & Abigail for finally putting together a comprehensive course on CST!!! The manual is in depth with great pictures for demonstration & the text explains how everything works together! An aspect missing in most CST courses I’ve taken in the past. The four day I intensive discussions, hands on learning & the location were magical! Best course I have ever taken & not only did I survive eating vegetarian for four days, I feel like I thrived eating well for the four days! I’d highly recommend this course to any massage therapist, any healthcare practitioner or anyone interested in alternative health care. Many blessings & love to Tom & Abigail & all the wonderful ladies that joined me on the course! Which I will be repeating in the future!
A wonderful mentor, Doug Smith suggested that I take the course as trauma has taken hold of me. He also said I should meet Tom.
My son just recently suffered a SCI which has left him paralyzed and me searching for ways to help my son heal and deal with the trauma of the accident. I thought there has to be something that I could do than just be there for him and there was, the Anatomy of Trauma given by Abigail and Tom. Fortunately, even though I had registered late, Abigail quickly responded to my inquiry and the rest is history.
I had not taken anatomy since university. Abigail assured me that I would be fine. As I entered the door I am enveloped in a huge hug by Tom. Wow! Talk about making an impact.Right from the moment you walk through the door until the minute you leave your time is consumed with becoming knowledgeable about the body and assisting others to heal.
Tom and Abigail believe that 80 percent of what you do is intent and 20 percent technique. Was I nervous, I sure was, but by the end of the third day I left with a fast held belief that I could do this.
I learned more than I thought I would this weekend, besides learning techniques, I made connections and bonds with people who in my daily life would never have met. I presume things are meant to be for a reason and I was meant to meet Tom and Abigail and be introduced to a world of wonderful, caring, talented people and intelligent people. We all brought something to the experience.
If you get a chance to take this course you will learn a wealth of information and your body will also heal from the trauma you yourself have experienced sometime in your life.
The day after taking the course comments by people who saw me said you look so relaxed, I was and I was. I was at peace.
Thank you Tom and Abigail
Abigail’s TraumaPractik has had a massive impact on my life. When I started seeing Abigail three years ago, I was unable to lead an active lifestyle; I have nerve damage in my lower back, and was lucky to make it through each day at work.
Abigail played a critical role in helping me regain my ability to swim, ski, and travel again. Although I still have ups and downs, the overall trend is upward, which feels fantastic! It means everything to me to be active again, and I am so very grateful to Abigail and Tom for the work they do. They are extraordinary healers!
I’m very happy to have taken the anatomy of trauma course! I learned different ways to recognize how the body deals and reacts to trauma. The assessment skills and techniques taught are invaluable to my practice. I’m looking forward to repeating the course!
Abigail and Tom keep half the performers in Ottawa in peak form.
For twenty years, they have brought me back to a place where I can access my whole emotive and physical flow. Trauma enough both emotional and physical along the way…without their skill and kindness, I could not be flourishing in peak creativity at 60. My happy discovery in rehearsal halls is just how many of us share the secret, and rely on their knowledge and care.
Working with Abigail & Tom has been a real educational and enlightening experience. The journey started with myself to cure my own pinched nerves, tight muscles and numbness. After working with other specialists and having no success, I started work with Abigail and Tom. Their whole body-mind approach and “deal with whatever issue rises to the surface” approach allowed us to work thru the layers of the onion that was my body and I started to see results almost immediately. The biggest mystery for me was the release of a bad dental experience that was trapped behind my eye triggering pain in my lower back. The release of both the eye issue and the back issue allowed the lingering lower back pain that I had been experiencing for months to fully disapate and disappear.
I was intrigued enough to take one of the courses they offered. Not being formally trained in the field I did not completely get all of the subject matter, however the course still allowed me to see the body and the body movements in a different light.
My journey continued as I got involved with my daughters competitive hockey team as a trainer. Through the years I have extensively used the knowledge and understanding gained from Abigail and Tom to truly see each of the players and work thru with them what ever issues they are dealing with. The recognition of the affects of a hit to the shoulder and how it can affect other areas of the body, has allowed be to not only treat the immediate impact, but also recognize the side affects the initial hit can have on other areas of the body. Part of my daily routine has become explanation to players how they need to stretch and treat their body in order to prevent further pain and allow for faster recovery.
As a mother I have extensively used the skills learned with my daughter as well. A tailbone fall four years ago, has had us pursuing the mystery of the nerves and muscles of the lower back, hips and thighs. Her burning thigh pain is a complete mystery and only arises during intense skating (i.e., hockey games). No other sports seem to trigger the pain and the only real correlation we have been able to draw is to muscle tension in the hips, thighs and back. So in order to keep the pain level to a minimum and allow her to continue playing the sport she loves at the competitive level I use the massage and active release techniques learned from Abigail both before and after each and every game.
I have learned that the body is a puzzle that we need to look at in many different and varied ways to fully understand and fix. A single method of treatment does not solve all problems and we need to be open to new ideas as well as what the body is telling us. So for me the journing continues both as a Hockey trainer and a Hockey mom.
I am privileged and blessed to have known Abigail and Tom for two decades. A recent injury brought me back into the trusting and skilled hands of Abigail. I had a severely pinched nerve, and was walking with great difficulty and much pain. I had spasms from my lower back to my ankle. Within moments Abigail was gently massaging and adjusting my body to help relieve the intense pain that my body was experiencing.
It is really indescribable … the healing on so many levels that Abigail makes happen. She is truly a gifted healer… magical in so many ways!
On leaving the session my body felt more relaxed, there was a noticeable reduction of pressure in my lower spine and the shooting pain down my leg was no longer present.
I also felt happier, more calm and peaceful… Abigail helped me to release emotions and traumas that were stuck and being held inside my injured body.
Abigail has worked on me and many of my friends and family members… should you ever need any adjustments, tune-ups, or assistance in recovering from an injury I would wholeheartedly recommend that you seek the professional and miraculous work of Abigail. She put me back together, and she will do the same for you!
Thank-you for your friendly and professional assistance before my recent trip out to the World Masters Games. I am convinced that without your (TraumaPractik) therapy to resolve the immediate problems I was having in my legs, I would not have been able to compete the grueling 9 matches in 4 day schedule of the indoor volleyball in the 45 yrs to 50 yrs division.
I am also following your advice for longer term solutions regarding my posture. In the last 27 yrs I have been involved in professional and elite international volleyball in Canada and Italy and am convinced that you could immediately increase the performance of these athletes with your therapy.
You were both integral parts of our gold medal.
